TV Channel Overview
Al Jazeera Arabic (قناة الجزيرة) is an Arabic-language international news channel headquartered in Doha, Qatar, and operated by Al Jazeera Media Network. As the network’s original television channel, it serves audiences across the Arab world and Arabic-speaking communities elsewhere, covering regional and international developments through a network of correspondents and bureaus.
News and current affairs form the core of the schedule, with reporting on politics, conflict, diplomacy, economics, society, culture, and other public issues. Field reports, interviews, discussion programs, documentaries, and analysis provide context beyond daily headlines, while coverage draws extensively on events and perspectives from the Middle East, North Africa, and other regions.
The channel began broadcasting in 1996 from Doha. Its launch preceded the later expansion of Al Jazeera into additional television and digital services. In 2006, as the organization prepared to introduce its English-language news channel, it adopted the Al Jazeera Media Network name. Al Jazeera Arabic has continued as the network’s original Arabic-language news service within this broader media organization.
